Overview

BCRM, through is wholly owed subsidiary Forensic Computing Ltd, has extensive background in forensic evidence recovery and the provision of Expert Witness reports and services for digital forensic cases.

An 'Expert Witness' is an individual who has special training or experience in a specific field and is permitted to state his or her opinion concerning those technical matters even though he or she was not present at the event. This is different to a 'witness of fact' who can only present what they actually witnessed and not give opinions.

The key to providing an effective service of this type is in the training given to those who will appear in court or write expert reports. Forensic Computing Expert Witnesses attend the dedicated training through Bond Solon on report writing, oral evidence and cross examination and is accreditation through the Cardiff University Expert Witness Accreditation Scheme (CUBS).

Approach

We approach each case in the same manner:

  • you make an approach to us to undertake a case;
  • case information is obtained so that a quotation can be prepared;
  • the proposal is sent to you who accept or reject it;
  • assuming it is accepted, the relevant evidence is securely conveyed to our forensics laboratory;
  • the evidence is logged in to the laboratory and the chain of custody record maintained;
  • the evidence is imaged securely and then the original evidence is secure in the property store;
  • the appropriate work is carried out and either a report or statement is prepared, depending on your requirements
  • a dialogue is maintained throughout the process as further instructions are usually required based on discovery of evidence;
  • a BCRM Expert Witness attends relevant meetings for the case and attends court;
  • the expert gives evidence if required;
  • the case is closed and original evidence is securely returned to you.
